Rain The clouds roll in from the distance Dark and foreboding Lights dance amongst them The air becomes cold and unsettled As if in fleeing before the coming storm The sun is blotted from the sky Night falls early The sky rumbles as if the gods were at war I stare transfixed I do not feel the cold I do not feel the wind I do not fear the storm I wait One drop, two Scouts, searching ahead, all is clear The pace increases All around is the sound of rain Other noises are muffled, unimportant I turn my face to the sky, scanning the dark clouds CRACK! A bolt of light leaps to the ground and back to the heavens It struck close, I feel the earth tremble I walk barefoot through the grass, absorbing the sensations Feeling the energy in the air, the living force that is nature The rain washes over me Lightening my spirit I have lost the ability to cry So nature does it for me She cries for all those who do not understand Those who never experience her beauty Her power I am soaked through The rain comes hard now Some of the drops have frozen Ice pelts me with thousands of blows It hurts, but not as much as I hurt inside I reach out to the energies around me Pulling them into myself Replacing those that life has stolen from me I do not ask for much And she gives freely I do not fear her power I do not worry I trust her For I love her I thank her for what she gives to me The strength to go on The love I need to care And the humbleness I need to help others The pace slackens A few straggling drops fall upon my upturned face Clouds run swiftly away Stars peek through the dark veil The winds calm The storm has passed I return to my life and await the next storm -megazone, appreciating nature, 7/25/92
