Episode #11 No Need for an Armageddon! All the particulars of the group are gathered on the bridge as they approach the dimensional portal to the chaos realm, the subdimensional prison where Chaos had been held for many centuries. All of them are dressed in combat attire. Kyoto is dressed in red and green samurai attire. Tenchi and Katsuhito are wearing Juraian combat garb, as is Ayeka. At the last minute, Tsunami had given Kiyone her own set of Juraian combat clothes. Ryoko is in her black and crimson, skin-fitting battle outfit. Mihoshi is in her showgirl-like GP armor. Nobuyuki sports a makeshift battle suit. Washu is in a GP PA suit. Digital Washu has outfitted herself with a large artillery pack: simply a couple of very large guns attached to her shoulders via backpack rig. "Um... won't those outfits be kinda'.... awkward for fighting?" asks Kyoto, staring at the goddesses in their voluminous robes. "Just a moment." Tsunami disappears in a spout of water and reappears in a Juraian style battle suit. Tokimi's combat attire is similar to that of Ryoko's except the color is sheer black. Murasaki is clad in a more ornate version of Tsunami's outfit. As preparations are made, Muriyaki and Kyoto pull Hanae and Chi-ohki aside. "Hanae, Chi-ohki," says Kyoto. "If we... don't make it through..." He is unable to say the rest, so Muriyaki pulls up the slack. "Take Sasami, and the rest of your sisters and the station and run. Chi-ohki will know what to do. We want you to run as far as you can, any point in history. With luck, it'll be decades before Chaos can find you and perhaps you'll be able to find some kind of satisfying life for yourselves." Hanae nods at this. "Alright." "Okay, so how do we get to where we're going?" asks Tenchi, hefting his sword. "Just give me a moment, people." Closing his eyes, Kyoto concentrates, putting all of his knowledge and all of his power into one distinct focus. Find a portal. A few minutes later, a door-sized field of energy appears in front of them. "Express elevator to hell!" he calls out brightly. Taking Edgatho out of her sheath, he steps through first. Everyone else files through a second later, leaving Hanae and Sasami on the bridge. Sasami looks after them with a worried glance and not even Ryo-okhi settling in her hair can settle her down this time. When they step out of the portal, they find themselves in a gigantic, barren wasteland. "Sub-space," whispers Ayeka. "Tenchi, doesn't this look familiar?" "All too familiar, I'm afraid," he says. "I thought you would recognize it," rumbles a distinctly disturbing voice. They all look around, making sure that it was none of them, and then the voice speaks again. "My son was killed here...." And, all of a sudden, demons come bursting out of the ground. Some look like the horned, goat-tailed monsters of Old Testament lore, while others look like an even more feared form of demon. "Snakes!!" yells Ayeka, clinging to the nearest soul --only later does she realize that she was clinging to Tsunami throughout most of the battle. "Help, save me from these snakes!" "Is this the best you can do, Chaos?" says Kyoto, raising Edgatho, whirling her above his head, and bringing her blade down upon the snake about to attack Ayeka. "I've just begun..." hisses the disturbing voice again. All of a sudden, the entire field changes and they are in a giant pit full of these snakes. "Everyone, back up, a circle!" yells out Tenchi. Closing ranks, the group shrinks into a small a circle as they can, fighting and chopping, and kicking and slicing, and shooting away. They burn down countless of these snakes, but for everyone they destroy, another one pops up in its place. "Are you enjoying this?" says the voice. "I am." A moment later it speaks again in a more conversational tone. "You know, I'm quite impressed, actually. I didn't think you would have made it past the first stage demons. Oh, well, I've got plenty of time to break you." And suddenly, the ground drops out from beneath them and is replaced with the hills and hills of sharp spikes sticking up from the ground. "Oh, God, it's the hell of needles!" yells Tenchi. "Someone do something!" "Hang on, everyone!" Tsunami closes her eyes in concentration and the group suddenly stops about a meter up from the tallest needle. "Very impressive, again," applauds the foul creature. "You may be worthy adversaries after all, but I am not finished yet..." Suddenly, the spikes turn into vines and the ground they sit upon is changed into hot, steaming magma and the vines begin to snake upwards, grabbing ankles or wrists or whatever they can get a hold of. "No-o!" yells Kyoto as several vines wrap themselves around Ryoko. He hacks and slashes at them, finally cutting her free. Nobuyuki, being quite inexperienced in how to use his battlesuit, is shooting at everything in sight and somehow doing it right. Finally, the goddesses step in. Tokimi evaporates the vines, with several well-placed bursts of flame, and Tsunami freezes the magma into mere rock. "Now, I see your secret!" yells Chaos. "You have Goddesses with you! No, wonder you have survived thus far." And, suddenly, all hell breaks loose--perhaps more accurately, all hells break loose. Sharp needles begin raining down from above, cracking the magma and on contact they start to burn, turning the magma back into lava again. Also, once the spikes his ground they turn into deadly snakes. Tsunami is generating a force shield, but the strain on her face is showing. "I can't hold this much longer," she gasps. "Let me help you, sister," says Tokimi, taking her hands and the shield glows even stronger. "How long can you hold this?" asks Tenchi. "Quite a while," says Tokimi, "but probably not long enough for him to get tired and bored, and leave us alone." "Um... hold on a second, please." Having spotted Chaos, Murasaki clenches one fist and a light spear appears in it. She hurls it at Chaos and it slices through an arm, but he just shrugs it off, as if nothing happened. However, this is enough to break his concentration and the deadly illusions disappear out from underneath them, and they find themselves standing in the wasteland they had first arrived in, and Chaos is cackling with laughter. "How pitiful." All of a sudden, the shadowy form of Chaos on the hill disappears and suddenly Kyoto's eyes start glowing red. Tenchi is the first to see this. "Everyone, back away from Kyoto, now!" His command is justified a moment later when Kyoto whirls around his sword and comes within a hair of chopping Tenchi's head off. Everyone backs away quickly, as Kyoto starts hacking and slashing at everyone in sight. They can all see the reddish glow in his eyes and the cackling smirk on his face. Ryoko starts to step forward, in the hope that she can reason with him, but Tenchi yanks her back. "Watch it, Ryoko!" "You can't reason with Kyoto when he is like this," says Tsunami. "You see, he's not himself, literally! Chaos has possessed his body." "Well, how do we get him out of Kyoto's body?!" Ryoko yells frantically. "I wish I knew. The last time we fought Chaos, he did not take over one of our creations." Kyoto is now laughing in Chaos's voice. "Marvelous power, splendid, splendid! Oh, how glorious it feels to be in a mortal body again. And as I possess his body, I possess his mind and I know each of your weaknesses." He raises his hand, palm open. "Tsunami, my dear Tsunami. I have a gift for you, my love." "Don't you dare call me that again, you slime," she snarls. "Whatever you wish, my pet," he says amiably. "But, I have a gift for you, as I said before." In the palm of his hand appears an Earth-like world with two intersecting rings around it. Everyone starts at this. "Jurai!" whispers Tsunami. Chaos laughs, a distinctly unpleasant sound. "Yes, it is the precious Jurai around which all the light in the universe revolves, well, no longer." He begins to toss the ball up and down in his hand. "Here, I'm screwing with its gravity, nothing really serious, just people bouncing up into the air and slamming back down, perhaps a trifle harder than they would normally. This, on the other hand... will cause more damage." He grips the sphere and starts shaking it. Tsunami's eyes go wide and she drops to her knees. "Chaos, stop it!" Chaos smiles at her and it's not a friendly smile, either. It's a kind of lustful smile. "And what is it worth to you, Tsunami? Your life? Your power? Perhaps I should just.... drop it." He tosses the ball up into the air and makes as if to just let it fall to the ground and shatter. But, at the last minute he turns and catches it neatly. "Or, perhaps it's worth... you, Tsunami?" "What in the hell are you talking about?" she hisses, knowing full well what he's talking about. "Our powers joined would be unbeatable in all the universes! And besides, I have wanted you since the day I met you." Before Tsunami can say anything, Ayeka steps forward and speaks in her most commanding voice. "As a princess of Jurai, I forbid you to do anything more to Jurai!" "Princess, you're really in no position to bargain or to command anything," snaps Chaos. "Funny, I would have spared the planet anyway, but, you piss me off!" He chucks the planetoid into the air. "Catch it, if you can!" Ayeka stands there with shock on her face. The ball arcs into the air, reaches the peak of its arc, and begins to quickly descend. It is about to hit the ground; everyone is standing there, and tensing for the crack open that will signal the destruction of the planet... And then they hear a wumph! and an ooof! ...and they look down and they see Kiyone, sitting on the ground, cradling the ball of Jurai in her hands. "Yay, for Kiyone!" exults Mihoshi and everyone joins in on cheering her. "You mortals are proving more resourceful --and more of a nuisance-- than I thought. Well, I see you need a lesson in some manners!" Chaos levels his arms and releases an energy bolt that throws the entire group back. His aim shifts then, toward Kiyone. "And you, you little bitch, you will make a fine stone sculpture in my garden or maybe a skin rug hanging behind my throne. Yes, you will definitely make a wonderful addition to my collection of dead things." Leveling his wrists again, he is about to release a bolt of energy when he suddenly feels searing pain shoot through him. At first, he wonders what's going on, until he sees a turquoise beam of energy piercing through his stomach. Smirking, he turns around to see Tenchi yank the blade out and take up a Juraian fighting stance. "Very clever, young man. Tell me, is there any particular reason you did that? Tell me, does this girl mean something to you?" "More than you can imagine!" Tenchi spits out. "Well, young man, it was a valiant effort. I applaud you. Unfortunately, it was all a failure." He raises a hand and clenches it and all of a sudden Tenchi's sword flies out of his hand and into Chaos's, who examines it after extinguishing the blade. "Nice sword. A Juraian-made light sword--and a Goddess Blade to boot! I've always wanted one of these." The blade re-ignites and Chaos winds up for a pitch. "Good-bye, Tenchi Masaki." He releases the blade and it spins back towards Tenchi, cutting through the air with a whistle. Tenchi neatly sidesteps and ducks, thinking that he's evaded the blade, he sprints back towards Kiyone. "Are you alright, Kiyone-yoni?" "Yeah, I'm fine. I just-- Tenchi, look out!" Before he can do anything else, she pushes him out of way as the blade comes spinning back toward them. Tenchi smirks. "Oh, really?" He holds out his hand, fingers splayed out, and the Tenchiken vanishes from sight and reappears, inert, in his hand. The blade snaps back into existence and it doubles in size, along with the hilt, and curves at the tip. Roaring, he lunges forward and slams it through Chaos's chest, causing him to cry out in amplified pain. "Way to go, Tenchi!" cheers Mihoshi. "I'm proud of you, son," calls out Nobuyuki. Kiyone rushes up to him and hugs him tightly. "Thank you, Tenchi-yon." "Anytime," he tells his wife. Chaos applauds sarcastically. "How sweet." Leveling his arms in front of him, he sends a double-blast of emerald energy slicing through the air at Tenchi. "Tenchi, get out of the way!" cries Kiyone, pushing her beloved out of the beam’s path. "Kiyone-yoni?! What are you doing, get out of the way!" he yells. She does not respond, instead closing her eyes, her brow furrowing in determination, determination to keep her beloved form being hurt, even at the cost of her own life… …and all of a sudden a triangular forehead marking, consisting of an inverted triangle flanked by two smaller upturned triangles, appears on her forehead, to the surprise of everyone. A moment later, something that is best described as a triple-bladed, glowing propeller appears in front of her. The wave of energy sluices off the "propeller," leaving her unharmed. There is a collective gasp and Katsuhito speaks in a small voice. "I had heard about these legends, but I did not think they were true." "What legends?" asks Ryoko. "The Legend of the Light Hawk Wings," whispers Katsuhito. "They're supposedly an energy shield that nothing can penetrate and--" He stops talking at this moment as Kiyone, a determined look on her face, stretches her arms out in front of her. These so-called "Light Hawk Wings" roll back over her and transform her outfit from a Juraian battlesuit to a long, flowing lavender kimono, much like the one that Achika had worn when she had called on her Jurai power to defeat Kain. She grips one of the light-blue energy blades floating in front of her and it transforms into a gigantic sword. "Impossible!" yells Chaos. "I didn't think any of you had access to the power of the goddesses!" Then he suddenly realizes something. "It's you! You're causing this!" Kiyone's face has gone from determined to contemptuous. "Never, under any circumstances, attack my Tenchi, is that understood?!" (Any thoughts the other girls might have entertained about stealing Tenchi away from Kiyone are now completely banished.) "I'll get you!!" Hefting Edgatho, Kyoto/Chaos rushes at Kiyone, who deftly parries with her sword. He whirls about with another attack, which she deflects with her shield. She then grabs the shield and it compresses into another sword. "Damn you!" The two continue fighting viciously, parrying one another's attacks and counters. "Enough!" yells Kyoto/Chaos. "I cannot go on fighting this way!" "Why not?" quips Kiyone. "Afraid of a fair fight?" He glares laser bolts at her. "Enough, I shall end this farce here and now!" All around him, they see energy swirling and coruscating around him. Tenchi gets to his feet and pushes Kiyone out of the way. "Kiyone-yoni, look out! Do you know what he's about to do?!" "What?" she says, a little miffed at him for taking her away from the fight. "You'll see in a minute!" says Washu, slowly backing away. The wall of energy goes rippling outward and the people manage to barely stay a step ahead of it. This works well enough until they find themselves coming up against the wall of a chasm. "Tsunami, can you lift us out of here?" yells Tenchi. "Tenchi, look up," she says gently. He looks up and understands. The wall of energy is bearing down on them, coming down like a tidal wave. Tenchi pulls Kiyone close to him. "It was a lovely life, wasn't it?" She smiles and snuggles up next to him. "Yes, it was." I'm sorry, Kiyone-yoni, Tenchi thinks as he closes his eyes and waits for the blast to hit them. He sees the glow of Kiyone's Light Hawk Wings through his eyelids as they float out in front of her, but he doubts the power of them to hold back this torrent of energy. Taking his hand in hers, he says to her, "I'm sorry." He squeezes his eyes shut and then opens them, expecting to find himself and Kiyone in the next life-- And he blinks when he finds that something is holding the wave of energy back. He blinks again when he sees a second set of Light Hawk Wings floating in front of him. (Later, he is not surprised to find that the whole group has scurried behind them.) Kyoto/Chaos is shocked at this. "Wha-at!!" he bellows. "Two sets of Light Hawk Wings?! This is impossible! Ahh!" The energy wave starts trundling back. Tenchi, having observed how Kiyone did it, reaches out his hands, and his Light Hawk Wings roll back to encompass him. When they clear, he is dressed in a pastel and frilled version of his Juraian battlesuit, all pastel purples and blues, as well as the floating energy blade in front of him. He lights the Tenchiken’s blade and plunges the sword into the floating blue-white Light Hawk Wing. The hilt grows in his hands and develops a pair of upward-curved bladeguards, and the azure beam-blade elongates to become a Jurai-energy version of Kiyone’s sword. "Never mess with the Jurai emperor's fiancée!" quips Kiyone. "I have had enough of you!" The energy seems to funnel back into him and he uses it to grow to gigantic size. "You are all dead!" he snarls. He suddenly pulls an economy-sized Edgatho from its sheath and everyone gulps at this. "It's bigger than our house!" yells Nobuyuki. "Yes," says Katsuhito, "it is bigger than our house." "Everyone run!" yells Tenchi and everyone starts running, barely staying two steps ahead of the sword. "Tenchi, aren't you going to do something?!" yells Ryoko. "What do you expect me to do?!" he asks, dodging a sword cut that lands about a centimeter away from his feet. Suddenly, the ground starts rumbling and Murasaki erupts out of the ground, equal in size to Chaos/Kyoto now and clad in the voluminous robes of the sisterhood of the goddesses. "You will stop this, now!" "Try and stop me, little girl," he snaps. "You couldn't stop me twenty thousand years ago." "Maybe I couldn't, but we did," she says, referring to her and her sisters. "And now," she indicates to the rest of the group, "we will stop you again and this time we'll make sure it's not a mere imprisonment." "Hah, hah, hah, big talk," snaps Kyoto/Chaos. Suddenly he feels a bolt of energy strike him in the side. He turns around to see-- "Tsunami! Tsunami, why are you doing this to me, we had something beautiful together, why are you doing this and why are you betraying me?!" "You claimed you loved me, but you only used me to further your own power," she snaps. "You'll do no more harm to our dimensions." He turns to face Tokimi, who has taken up the third triangular position. "And you, Tokimi? We had some good times together, you and I, do you really want to throw all of that away now?" "You betray my sisters, you betray me," she says quietly. "You don't deserve to live anymore." The three sisters begin to pelt him with energy bolts, with each successive impact, he gets smaller and smaller, until he has shrunken down to Kyoto's normal size. "Good work, ladies," he snaps, "I applaud you. Unfortunately, you overlooked one thing: you cannot destroy me, without destroying your beloved creation, Kyoto. So, it seems we have a choice, you either let me and him live or you make the two of us die!" And suddenly a voice, Kyoto's voice says, "No, I'll make that choice!" And a moment later, Kyoto's body starts convulsing and shaking, until finally Kyoto's voice shouts, "Get out!!!" And with this primal scream, Chaos's spirit is expelled. "Well, I see that you've been able to do much at least," he snaps. "But, you still cannot defeat me!" Before they can say anything, he starts hurtling energy bolts at random. Most miss, but some hit and each one shrinks each goddess a little bit. Barely holding onto her power, Murasaki then yells, "The sword! The swords, Tenchi, Kyoto, Kiyone, your blades, I need them!" Acting on instinct, Tenchi tosses his sword up into the air. Kyoto follows suit and, a moment later, Kiyone rips her dagger out of her boot and chucks it into the air. As the swords fly up into the air, the air around Murasaki starts to crackle and wisps of cerulean, jade, and lavender light start to encircle her. The three blades whirl around in mid-flight and start to orbit around her. She stretches out her hands and closes her eyes. The blades start to change. Edgatho's blade starts to glow the color of the Tenchiken's blade and the hilt splits in half lengthwise. The two halves swing up till both are at a forty-five degree angle. The purple tuning fork-like projecting end of Tenchi's sword radiates a whitish luminescence and locks neatly into the right angle of the triangle created by Edgatho's split hilt. The butt of Kiyone's dagger's hilt also splits open and the pommel of the Tenchiken's hilt clicks into place, the split ends of the dagger locking down securely. The completed weapon rises, bladetip pointed upward, and floats to Murasaki, the hilt coming to rest in her hands. The goddess holds it one-handed above her head. "Kami no ken. Chya'to'Richi. The Sword of God." "NO!" yells Chaos, truly afraid for the first time. "It cannot be! Kami no Ken!" "Yes," says Murasaki coldly, "Kami no Ken. The sword that managed to kill your physical body over a million years ago and now, the sword that will destroy you once and for all." "You will not defeat me!!" He brings his own sword out, an energy blade that looks like a cheap Juraian knock-off. Both of them twirl their swords in the air and then rush at each other, bringing their swords about in one, long deadly arc-- Both of them land on the other side, somehow intact. Murasaki looks down at herself, at the area where the energy blade would have struck her, to see that it has done nothing. Chaos turns to face her. "Yes, yes, I remember now, the fabled Kami no Ken, able to destroy anything it touches.... Brilliant plan, Murasaki...." He begins to evaporate into the air, but before he is gone, he says, "You've won, girl..." The sword drops out of Murasaki's hands and halfway to the ground, splits into its three components and each of these components flies back to its owner. As Tenchi and Kiyone grasp their weapons, the Light Hawk Wings fade from power around them and they are once again in their normal Juraian battle suits. "Is it over, now?" asks Kiyone. "Yes," says Murasaki, "It is over." Just then, the entire dimension jolts and everyone stares at Murasaki. "Did you cut sub-space in half?" yells Tenchi. "I think I might have," she admits, sheepishly. "Well, let's not argue about it now, let's go!" yells Kyoto, leading everyone back through the portal. They barely make it through alive, before the portal collapses. Chisako is rocketing away when what had been Chaos's dimensional portal explodes into a super-nova. "Well, now," says Kyoto. "I think we should head back to Earth now, don'cha think?" "Yeah," says Tenchi. "Back to Earth..." For once, he doesn't seem quite so eager to get back to Earth. "Okay," says Kyoto, "we need to use the Time Drive one last time." "What for?" asks Tenchi. "To take us back to the exact moment in time that we left." "Um, are you sure you want to do that?" questions Ryoko. "The exact moment in time that we left was the one where you were about to be captured." "I'll take my chances," says Kyoto, tapping the coordinates into the console. "Everyone hang on to something or someone." Chisako disappears, finally headed for home. * * * The Chisako comes out of fold, behind the moon, our moon, just in time to watch Chisako originally disappear. "It's hard to believe that we're returning to the entire beginning of this," says Ayeka. "Well, let's not keep our public waiting." Kyoto manipulates the controls and engages the sub-light drives. He is about fifty klicks behind the rear-most ships of the fleet when they suddenly begin to pivot and face him. "Is that you, Kyoto Minamoto?" comes a voice of a Juraian admiral. "Yes, it is," Kyoto says, sounding bored. "Admiral, I have someone here that would like to say something." "Oh, and who might that be? One of your concubines?" "Last I checked, I was never anyone’s concubine," quips Tenchi, stepping into view. The admiral’s eyes go wide. "L-L-Lord Tenchi! What do y--" Tenchi holds up a hand. "Admiral, stand down. This ship is non-hostile now." "What?" Even if this young man is the first in line to take Jurai’s throne (although he reportedly had decided to put that option aside for a while), the admiral can’t believe his ears. "Lord Tenchi, I--" "Ka’ya cha ro! Yo’ri Jurai’yachi tano chi ga sho! Isho na, ka gado kai*!" Everyone looks at Tenchi in surprise. The admiral seems to be sweating, but he bows his head. "Y-y-yes, Lord Tenchi--or, sir, should I call you ‘Lord Emperor Tenchi’ now?" Tenchi shakes his head. "Not quite yet. Admiral, this ship is a designated non-combatant as of now. Thank you for your service, you may return home now." Still shaking, the naval officer bows. "Of c-co-course, Lord Tenchi. Is there anything else?" "As a matter of fact, yes." Tenchi spares a reassuring grin for the admiral. "Tell the Supreme Council that I wish to convene with them in two weeks on Jurai. Tell them.... tell them I’m ready." The admiral nods, looking somewhat calmer now. "As you will, Lord Tenchi." His face disappears from the screen, and Tenchi collapses into a chair. "Whew." "What did he just say?" asks Nobuyuki in confusion. "He invoked the unbreakable word," intones Katsuhito. "Once uttered, no one may go against it.... but also once uttered, the speaker cannot withdraw his bid for the throne." Kyoto grins and leans over to Tenchi. "How did you say that again?" Tenchi adopts a blank expression. "Funny, I seem to have forgotten...." Giggling, Kiyone drops herself into Tenchi’s lap and hugs him. "My Emperor," she coos. "My Empress," he tells her, kissing her on the lips. "My stomach," moans Kyoto, drawing laughter from everyone. The End Footnotes: *Ka’ya cha ro! Yo’ri Jurai’yachi tano chi ga sho! Isho na, ka gado kai!: The "unbreakable word." Only the Emperor of Jurai or a leading contender for the throne has the right to say this. Equivalent to a statement of intentions, once uttered the order has to be obeyed. In this case, the translation is "Cease action immediately! As Emperor of Jurai’s Royal Family, I invoke the unbreakable word! Obey my order now!" Kinda cool, huh? [Image][Image][Image][Image][Image]
