(Part 1)
(The space station orbiting Takahashi IV.)
(Lt. Commander Mousse is looking at a large ship with several 
"bumps" on it..sloping, curving wings hold up a warp engine each.  It 
looks like the baby sister of the Enterprise but has one distinction on 
its saucer-shaped bridge: NCC-1994-A.  Above this is the lettering:
USS RUMICPRISE-D.)
(He is slightly sad, as he wearing a Geordi La Forge-like VISOR.)
MOUSSE:  Shampoo, you'd like this ship.  When I built this, I had you 
in my mind.  You might think me hentai because of it, but your 
curves and beauty were my inspiration for the ship. (sad) If only I 
could see it with my own eyes or even with glasses..
(A shuttle approaches the ship.  In it are Captain Ranma Saotome, 
Commander Akane Tendo, and a young ensign.  All three have 
burgundy uniforms, although Ranma and Akane have rank pips on 
thier collars.)
RANMA VO:  Captain's log, first entry.  Captain Ranma Saotome 
recording.  This day I take command of the starship Rumicprise-A.  
After serving under Captain Jariten Moroboshi in the original 
Rumicprise, I take over for him after my Captain accepted a 
Ambassadorship from the planet of one of his ancestors, Redet Lum.  
Though he is also human, the House of Moroboshi has produced 
several diplomats that kept peaceful relations between humans, onis 
such as Redet Lum, and the other races and species that make up the 
United Federation of Planets.
RANMA:  It was hard to imagine Mousse could create this.  He used 
to be clumsy and "lost," mistaking Shampoo for other things.
AKANE:  He was smarter than you and a lot of others gave him credit 
for.  He graduated Starfleet Academy with high ranks in Engineering,  
so you have to admire what he did.
RANMA:  You may be right.  After all, we came a long way from that 
fluke storm eight years ago.  Who'd know how far we got in this time 
and place?
ENSIGN:  Coming up on the Rumicprise, Captain.
RANMA:  The Rumicprise, Nyuchezzu Class starship.  Hard to believe 
this will be my command.  900 crew, with an additional 1500 
support personel which keeps that baby running.  Does Warp 9.9975 
for 5 minutes.  Also an experimental weapon onboard.
AKANE:  Mousse's "Shampoo Nodules" allow for power efficency.
RANMA:  Any juice we can squeeze won't get wasted I bet..think he's 
still fixated on Shampoo?
AKANE: (laughs) When wasn't he?  Who'd have guessed you and I 
would have gotten where we did?
RANMA: Well, I WAS good at getting parties together for saving you 
from whoever kidnapped you.  You weren't too bad with the other 
ladies as well. (pause) Let's meet the crew. (to ensign) Are we in  
transporter range?
ENSIGN: Yes, captain.
RANMA: Then let's go on board. (to Akane) Come on Akane.
(Ranma and Akane stand on the transporter platform.)
RANMA: (to communicator grille) Rumicprise..two to beam from 
shuttlecraft.  Do you have lock on?
COMM VOICE:  Locked on, Captain.
RANMA: Energize.
(Ranma and Akane vanish in a sparkle of light and a faint 
transporter whine.)

(Opening notes of title theme as planets glide by)
RANMA VO:  Space..the final frontier.  These are the voyages of the 
starship RUMICPRISE.  Its mission:  to explore new worlds..to seek 
out new life, and new civilizations..to boldly go where no man..no 
woman..no ONE..has gone before!

(Inside the Rumicprise.  Lieutenant Ryouga Hibiki is looking slightly 
confused as he looks for something or someone in the halls.  He is 
wearing a black-and yellow Klingon sash of honor over his black-and 
-amber uniform.)
VOICE:  Ryo-kun!
RYOUGA: (Turns around, sees a young woman) Ucchan!
(Lieutenant JG Ukyou Kuonji runs to Ryouga and embraces him in a 
hug.  Ryouga, slightly sheepish, returns the hug as he notices her hair 
is like she always had it..and that her own black-and-amber uniform 
makes her look more like a woman.)
RYOUGA:  What are you doing here?
UKYOU: (smiles) I'm the new navigator!  I'll also do helm control from 
time to time.
RYOUGA: (smiles) In other words, you'll help drive the ship.  Ready to 
pick up the pink slip for this crate?
UKYOU: (lightly slaps Ryouga) This is NOT a crate and you know it! 
(smiles) But I AM ready.  What are YOU doing here?
RYOUGA: I'm the Interim Chief of Security here.
UKYOU: (smiles) In other words, you're the sheriff (western drawl) 
around these parts.
RYOUGA: (John Wayne-like voice) That's right, little lady, because 
(Clint Eastwood-voice) that's the way we do things around here!
(Both smile as they talk.)
RYOUGA:  By the way, which way to the ready room? The new 
captain is waiting for us.
UKYOU: (smiles) Follow me.  (She leads Ryouga as they go to the 
ready room.  The doors open.)
(Seated in the Ready Room are Ranma and Akane at the front of the 
table.  Shampoo is next to Ranma, with Lieutenant JG pips on her 
burgundy uniform.  Mousse is seated, with VISOR.  Akemi is there as 
well, sitting by Mousse. Kasumi is there, in a blue medicial tunic, 
sitting by Dr. Tofu, also in blue uniform.  All are slightly nervous as 
Kasumi seems to be closer to Dr. Tofu than others would like.
DR.TOFU: (laughs) Relax.  I've undergone some "De-Kasumization" so 
that others won't feel endangered if Kasumi is with me.
RYOUGA: But why did you become that way?
DR.TOFU: (seriously) Starfleet Medical caught one of my "Kasumi 
Kalamities" on videotape.  Needless to say, I was offered desensitiza-
tion therapy for that..imperfection of mine or relief of duty and 
licence revocation based on medical disability.
KASUMI:  You all know how good a doctor Dr. Tofu is..I also volun-
teered to support him in case he needed help.
DR.TOFU:  The two of us have been going to therapy so that now, I 
may be affected off duty, but never whenever there is someone's life 
at stake or if I'm busy working.  It seems agonizing at times, but I 
feel that it's worth it.  I've been also learning about advancements in 
medicine since our..displacement.
(All nod as they remember.)

(Flashback.  This was a period right after Saiki University started.  
The gang (Ranma, Ryouga, Akane, Ucchan, Shampoo, Mousse, Kasumi, 
Akemi and Dr. Tofu) all settle in for a late-summer picnic.  Suddenly, 
a weird storm appears as clouds swirl above them ominously.  
Reflexively, they all take up battle stances.  A spout of some kind, 
with swirling energies around it, opens above them.  Suddenly, ball 
lightning flies out of the spout.  One ball hits Ranma in the head. 
Instinctively, Ryouga cuts off two more balls headed for Akane and 
Ucchan, but the lightning strikes him in both the chest and the head.  
Akane and Ucchan are then struck by two more balls, and one by 
one, the others are struck by more balls of ball-lightning.  After each 
person was struck, the energy of each blast of ball lightning encapsu-
lates the victim. With the encapsulations finished, the capsules con- 
taining their human cargo are sucked up by the spout.)
VOICE: NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

(The Ready Room.  All of them remember the flashback.)
RANMA:  ..and that was the last we remembered until we came here.
Each of us went different ways until I ran checks on all of us.  Now 
that we're together, I got all of us assigned to this ship..the Rumic- 
prise-A.  This is the result of the inventive genius of Commander 
Mousse. (points to Mousse)  The ship is capable of travel at a 
maximum warp of 9.9975.  There are six Type X phaser banks, two 
in the front hull, two in the rear of the ship, and two in the saucer 
section.  There are eight photon torpedo launchers on the ship, 
maximum firing rate of twenty torpedoes a second.  Also, there is an 
experimental weapon on board, I believe, Commander Doi?
AKEMI:  Yes, Captain.  This is a little contraption that had tested 
positive when Commander Mousse and I built it.  We call it..the 
Minmei disruptor!
MOUSSE:  At its lowest level, the disruptor acts to scramble an enemy 
starship's communications.  At the next highest, it can use hi-fre- 
quency waves to override their communications and disrupt their 
defensive or offensive moves while demoralizing crew.  At the 
highest, it can be used like disruptors and actually damage a starship 
to a crippling extent.
RYOUGA: (surprised) That's a powerful weapon we got then.  Can we 
be able to handle the power of something like that?  The Cardassians 
and others might use it against us!
MOUSSE: (smiles) Well, Ryouga, this is a powerful weapon, and one 
that hasn't been around long enough for countermeasures to be made 
against it.  I doubt that they'll expect things like this.
RYOUGA: All they may have to do is shut off their communications, 
right?  If communication links are the way this weapon operates, 
wouldn't the first line of defense is give attackers no way to gain an 
advantage?
RANMA:  Ryouga does bring up a valid point, Mousse.
MOUSSE:  Which is why I put the "Shampoo Nodules" on this ship.  
They can help maximize power by recycling power that would be lost 
as hard radiation or heat and channeling it to the power grids, which 
can boost the power supply that a system needs.
RANMA:  That sounds plausible.
RYOUGA:  A field test may be in order, though.  If I'm working with 
this as part of the ship and what may well be routine procedure in 
days to come, piece of mind is a good thing to have on this.
MOUSSE:  You sound pessimistic, Ryouga.
RYOUGA:  With all due respect, Mousse...er, COMMANDER Mousse, 
when the fate of possibly 2400 people is riding on the success or 
failure of a weapon like the Minmei Disruptor, concern is a valid 
thing to have.
MOUSSE:  You sound more Klingon than human, Ryouga.
RYOUGA:  I have been around the Klingons during the Cardassian 
Conflicts around their part of the Neutral Zone.  There are some 
Klingons I have related to, understood and allied with blood oaths.  Is 
there something wrong with that?
(Ukyou steps in to separate the two)
UKYOU: (To Ryouga) C'mon, Ryouga, I'm sure that he didn't mean it 
like that. (To Mousse) Commander, you'll have to remember family 
ties, whether with different species or similar, are still binding.
AKANE:  Ryouga is one of a handful of humans the Klingons trust 
openly..he can understand their thoughts and behavior.  He is also a 
decorated veteran of the Klingon-Cardassian Conflicts, as he pointed 
out.  As it is with his position, Chief of Security and Weapons Officer, 
he's got a legitimate reason to be concerned.
(Ryouga nods.)
SHAMPOO: (puzzled) Where that leave Shampoo?
RANMA:  Your bubbly personality, and determined demeanor have 
made me think the best position for you is Communications and 
Operations (Comm/Ops).  You have been able to improve your 
communication skills, as your records show, and you have skills at 
handling sensors, though Ryouga will help you at first.
SHAMPOO:  Ryouga help Shampoo with understanding this?
RYOUGA: (warmly) Sure.  No problem.
SHAMPOO: (wraps her arms around Ryouga's neck) Shei shei {Thank 
You} Ryouga! (Shampoo smiles warmly while Ryouga looks slightly 
embarrassed, turning brick-red.  Ukyou and Mousse are a tad jealous 
at this, and both are a little on the defensive.)
RANMA:  Akemi, your skills as science, both technical and occult 
have made me consider you the best choice for the post of Science 
Officer.  Your skills at navigation will let you take over for Ucchan 
when she gets tired of steering the ship.  Ucchan..(points to Ukyou)
RANMA:  ..as Navigations Officer, you'll have the main duties of 
steering the ship and making sure "she" is right on course.
(Ranma points to Kasumi and Dr. Tofu)
RANMA:  Kasumi has gone to Betazed and learned the techniques of 
empathy and emotion detection that native Betazeds learn.  Her own 
innate counseling and ability to balance egos, both forged strong and 
created fragile, have made me decide that her best function is Ship's 
Counselor.  Dr. Tofu, as you know, is Ship's Chief Surgeon, and thus 
the resident "medicine man."  Akane, who has tempered her spirit 
with wisdom (as have I) has shown her skills with leadership and 
diplomacy, and she is my First Officer, or second-in-command.  This 
was a position I had under the previous Rumicprise Commanding 
Officer, Ambassador Jariten Moroboshi, prior to my elevation to 
Captain.  I'll want you to think of security codes..and I'll expect them 
at 0900 hours tommorow morning.  It's now 2100 hours, so if you 
want to settle in now, go right ahead.  Don't ask about the security 
code requirement, it was in the manual for all new Starship Captains.
(Silent chuckles in the minds of the officers assembled.)
RANMA:  All dismissed until 0900.
(They start to file out save for Akane and Ranma.)
RANMA: And don't forget to work on your codes! I'll need them 
tommorow morning.
(The room is empty save for Akane and Ranma.)
AKANE:  Think this crew will work out?
RANMA:  We got a warp engineering wiz, a veteran of Cardassian 
conflicts, a Mistress of Occult Science, an ace Navigator, a good Com-
municator, a medic skilled in both futuristic and martials arts medi-
cine, and a counselor who's good with or without Betazed training. 
Couple them with the two of us..and what do you have?
AKANE:  Some green kids hoping to make it in a world that we didn't 
want to be part of, but are trying to make do in now.
RANMA:  Point to you, Akane.  But we do need to have faith in them.
AKANE:  I'm not worried about faith..just whether you did the right 
thing in getting a lot of people who you grew up with together.  Dif- 
ferent egos, different personalities.  Think they will have changed 
that much in eight years?
RANMA: One can dream, can't one?
AKANE:  Point to you, Ranma. (smiles)
RANMA:  Besides, they're the best of Starfleet..you saw their records 
as well as I.  They did well in the missions we faced together in the 
past..usually we had to go save you. (smiles)
AKANE:  Sure you did..and you usually ended up saving me..even if 
you took some lumps from the others afterward. (smiles)
RANMA:  Besides, they trusted me with their lives then, so the least I 
can do is trust them with my life now.
AKANE:  Never would have thought you'd say this kind of stuff.
RANMA:  Looks like all those lessons from Captain Picard on leader- 
ship and trust have caused me to do some heavy thinking as of late. 
(checks time)  It's about time for me to turn in, so how about I walk 
you to your new quarters?
AKANE:  I'd like that, Captain.
RANMA: (reaches for her hand) So would I, Commander.

(1100 hours.  The Rumicprise leaves the station's docking port.)
(Captain Ranma Saotome now sits on the bridge, flanked by Akane to 
his left and Mousse to his right.  Ukyou is seated at her navigation 
station in front of Mousse, while Akemi is sitting at hers, in front of 
Akane.  Ryouga is standing behind Akane at his station, while 
Shampoo is standing behind Mousse at hers.)
RANMA:  Thought you'd be down in Engineering now, Mr. Mousse.
MOUSSE:  Thought I'd see my "baby" take her first steps, Captain.  
After all, I helped design a lot of her systems as well as her body 
parts.
SHAMPOO:  Shampoo hope you not thinking of falling in love with the 
ship, Mousse..would make Shampoo REAL jealous.
MOUSSE:  Any love is paternal, not romantic, Shampoo.  After all, I 
helped create the ship..so I feel a little pride at her creation and 
maiden voyage.  Kinda makes me feel like the "father" of this ship.
RYOUGA:  Well, don't worry, Commander, anyone who tries to violate 
your "daughter" will have to answer to me..and the EVA armor you 
helped me work on. (pause) No way am I gonna let them hurt her or 
the crew inside her if I can help it.
MOUSSE:  That's comforting to know, Ryouga.
RANMA:  Take us out, Ucchan.
UKYOU:  Heading out at quarter-impulse, Captain. (pause) We have 
cleared the docking ports.
RANMA:  Then same heading, warp one.. (pause) let's see what's out 
there.  Engage.
(Ship goes to warp..and zooms out with a boom.)
RANMA VO:  Captain's log, second entry.  Now that we have cleared 
the station, I hope we can do much with the Rumicprise in the years, 
hopefully, to come.
(Ryouga is showing Shampoo how to work sensors..obviously, she 
learns fast as it seems she's got prior experience at this.)
RYOUGA: ..and there you go. (Shampoo looks pleased.) Now you can 
do that next time, ne? (smiles)
SHAMPOO:  Shampoo no bimbo, Ryouga..Shampoo can do it.  Shampoo 
just need refresher with this model console, that's all. (smiles back, 
but then pauses)  Shampoo think routine journey no longer routine.. 
there is incoming hail from other ship!
RANMA:  On screen.

(Shampoo activates her communications console, which brings weird 
results.)
SHAMPOO:  Shampoo can only get audio..no video! (frowns after 
fiddling with the console again)
AKANE:  You're not pulling our legs, are you Shampoo?
RYOUGA: (looks at Shampoo and her console) I don't think she is!  
Visual seems scrambled and audio was the only thing that could get 
through.
RANMA:  Then let's hear it!
(A few more finger motions and we hear "it".)
COMMUNICATIONS VOICE:  Help!  This is the USS Jeff Yang!  Please 
respond!
RANMA:  This is USS Rumicprise, Jeff Yang.. what happened?
COMMUNICATIONS VOICE:  Ambush by Rumulons..all shields 
down..power fading..(crackles)
RANMA:  Jeff Yang..where are you? (tries again) Jeff Yang, respond! 
(Nothing.  Ranma looks behind him) Shampoo, Ryouga..did you get 
that?
SHAMPOO:  Tried to, but communications went down!
RYOUGA:  We did get a trace on which direction it came from.  
Coordinates sent to Ukyou.
RANMA:  Did you get the coordinates, Ucchan?
UKYOU:  Coordinates received..and course plotted with them.
RANMA:  That direction, Warp 5!  Ryouga, Shampoo..keep sensors 
and communications open!  If we can contact the Jeff Yang again, 
keep a lock on them!  We may need to bail out their crew.
(The Rumicprise arrives at the approximate location of the Jeff Yang.)
RANMA:  Still no hails from them or the Jeff Yang, Shampoo?
SHAMPOO:  None, Captain Ranma.
RYOUGA:  Sensors show no ships..(startled)..wait, showing decloaking 
activity! (Rumulon ship decloaks), Captain, it's a Rumulon warship!
RANMA: Shield up, power weapons..YELLOW ALERT! (to himself) 
Well, Ryouga, you wanted a chance to test the ship's weaponry..this 
may be your chance to do it!
(End Part 1)

[Commercial 1]
(A locker room.  Ryouga Hibiki is closing a locker door when a 
shimmer of light also appears..and materializes into Lieutenant 
Ryouga Hibiki.)
LT. HIBIKI: (pointing to Ryouga) Don't I know you?
(Two Ryougas walk in: one in baseball uniform with a bat, and one in 
football uniform with a helmet.  Both uniforms are black and yellow.)
BASEBALL RYOUGA:  Ryo knows baseball.
FOOTBALL RYOUGA:  Ryo knows football.
(Two more Ryougas walk out:  one is hockey uniform with hockey 
stick and one in basketball warmups with basketball)
BASKETBALL RYOUGA:  Ryo knows basketball.
HOCKEY RYOUGA:  Ryo knows hockey.
(Another Ryouga, on a ten-speed bike in a black-and-yellow biker's 
oufit brakes right in front of them)
BIKING RYOUGA:  Now where's that Tour-de-France thing?
(The other Ryougas point in different directions) 
BIKING RYOUGA: (sarcastically) Thanks. (pedals off)
(Two more Ryougas walk in: one is in tennis whites with racket, the 
other is with black-and-yellow running shorts.)
TENNIS RYOUGA:  Ryo knows tennis.
RUNNING RYOUGA:  Ryo knows track and field.
(A Formula One Car pulls up to them.  He takes off his helmet to 
reveal himself as another Ryouga)
FORMULA ONE RYOUGA:  Wish me luck at the Indy 500 in 1996!
(He races off, and the other Ryougas find another car, this time a 
NASCAR car, pull up to them.)
DRIVER:  Did that last guy say he was trying for the Indy 500?
ALL OTHER RYOUGAS:  YES!
(Driver takes off his helmet and shows himself to be another Ryouga)
NASCAR RYOUGA:  I got to get there for the Brickyard 400! (yells in 
distance) WAIT UP! (puts on helmet and races off)
(Another Ryouga is in black-and-yellow jockey uniform as he leads a 
horse up to the surprised bunch)
RYOUGA: (to the rest) I didn't know you could ride!
(Another Ryouga, in a track-and-field outfit with torch runs by)
TORCH RYOUGA:  See you guys at Atlanta in 1996!
(Scene freezes)
VOICE:  CUT!
(Director's chair flies down as we see Ryouga directing the whole 
thing.)
CAPTION:  JUST DO IT.
(Close on Nike logo.)
[End Commercial 1]

[Commercial 2]
(A locker room.  Ryouga Hibiki is closing a locker door when a 
shimmer of light also appears..and materializes into Lieutenant 
Ryouga Hibiki.)
LT. HIBIKI: (pointing to Ryouga) Don't I know you?
(Two Ryougas walk in: one in with a stack of books, and one with 
glasses, white shirt, and black-and-yellow tie tossing an apple into 
the air.)
BOOK RYOUGA:  Ryo knows literature.
APPLE RYOUGA: (between the first two Ryougas) Ryo knows physics.
(Three more Ryougas appear.  One in basketball uniform with a 
"world ball" (basketball with globe-like coloring and continents), one 
with a skull and dressed like Hamlet, and a third in a gold-and-black 
band uniform with big bass drum.)
WORLD BALL RYOUGA:  Ryo knows geography.
HAMLET RYOUGA:  Ryo knows Shakespeare.
DRUM RYOUGA:  RYO KNOWS BAND!
LT. HIBIKI:  Nice drum.
(Another Ryouga, with golden toga and laurel wreath on his head 
appears between the first two Ryougas, holding a scroll.)
TOGA RYOUGA: (slightly Europeans) Ryo knows philosophy. (beat) 
(Toga Ryouga looks at Ryouga) 
TOGA RYOUGA:  What are you looking at?!?
RYOUGA: (points at the toga) Nice toga.
(Blackboard slides in, with a bespecticaled Ryouga with black tie and 
yellow shirt in front of it.  The blackboard is full of calculus theorems 
and calculations..there are plenty of them on there.)
BLACKBOARD RYOUGA:  Ryo knows calculus.
(One final Ryouga walks out, clad in a black graduation gown and a 
golden collar.  He is holding a diploma)
GRADUATION RYOUGA: Ryo knows all this..'cause Ryo stayed in 
school.
(All Ryougas nod.)
(Cut to black screen with the white caption:  Don't be stupid. Stay In 
School.  Drum Ryo is still banging his bass drum)
ALL OTHER RYOUGAS: (unison) Don't be stupid.  Stay in School.
[End Commercial 2]

(Part 2)
(The bridge of the Rumicprise.  Still nothing from the Rumulons or 
the Jeff Yang..this is getting ticklish.)
RANMA VO:  Captain's Log, Second Entry.  The distress signal we had 
gotten from the USS Jeff Yang led us into this situation.  Thinking 
them wounded, we came to the aid of the Jeff Yang's crew..only to 
find neither ship nor crew but a Rumulon ambush.
RANMA: Still no response?
SHAMPOO: No.
RANMA: Are their weapons powered up?
RYOUGA:  Their shields are raised and they are powering weapons..
RANMA:  Prepare Minmei Attack, Full Power!
RYOUGA: (cringes at the thought) Sir, even Cardassians are afraid of 
that!
RANMA: (serious) I know..but all our options have been used.  We 
don't know where the Jeff Yang is or if it was here to begin with.  We 
also don't know if the Rumulon ship already dispatched it or just 
faked that distress call.  Therefore, since they are powering up 
weapons, we must be ready to fight!  Activate Minmei Attack!
(Ryouga sets up the gambit on his console, then looks frustrated)
RYOUGA:  Captain!  Minmei Attack is not responding!
RANMA:  NANI?!?
AKEMI:  Captain, energy transfer from the engine room is cut!
RANMA:  Masaka..Enginnering!  Mousse!  What's happening? (pause) 
Mousse!! Where are you?!
ENGINE ROOM CREW: Captain, Commander Mousse is trying to answer 
your call through the turbolift door..he's also wearing a picture of 
Lieutenant Shampoo on his uniform..
MOUSSE BACKGROUND: Yes Captain..why won't you answer me??
CREW MEMBER #2: Commander Mousse..the communicator is located 
over there..
MOUSSE: (finally talking to communicator) Yes, Captain, I'm still 
checking the problem...
CREW MEMBER #3:  GEEZ!  Who put a teddy bear instead of an 
antimatter controller into the weapon system?
AKEMI:  Sounds like I'd better get down there..quickly!!
(Akemi takes out a wand from Hammerspace(tm) and starts to wave) 
AKANE:  Chotto..
(Suddenly, Akemi is surrounded by green smoke)
COMPUTER VOICE:  Red Alert!  Bridge is on fire!  All personnel 
evacuate from the bridge immediately!
(Ukyou storms in, concerned about the computer's commotion)
UKYOU:  What happened?
RANMA:  Oh..nothing, Ucchan..just Akemi again..
SHAMPOO:  Captain..the captain of the Rumulon starshp wants to talk 
to you..
RANMA:  On screen.
RUMULON CAPTAIN:  This is the Rumulon Starship AKIRA.  We just 
captured an intruder..(Akemi, held by two Rumulons, is brought into 
scene)  We consider this an offensive action to our ship, and we 
demand an explanation, or we will consider this an act of war..
AKANE:  Huh oh..
RANMA:  Mr. Hibiki, a word with you..(to Ryouga, Sotto vocce) think 
you can beam Akemi out of there from your console if the computer 
guides you via links?
RYOUGA: (sotto vocce) Isn't that Mousse's department?
RANMA: (sotto vocce) He'll have a hard time getting weapon systems 
on line, for one thing.  As I'm short handed and you also have shield 
controls, you're the best choice for this..if they fire, I'l need you to 
activate Full Shields.
(Ryouga nods, understanding this.)
RANMA: (To Rumulon Captain) If you'll wait a little longer, I'll give 
you a good explanation.
RUMULON CAPTAIN:  It had better be good!
RANMA: (thinking to himself) [I hope Mousse has it fixed..] (taps 
communicator) Mousse!  Have you gotten it fixed yet?
MOUSSE: (wearing special anti-glare VISOR) I'll get it on line as soon 
as I can, but I can't guarantee it!  I'll let you know when it's done!
RANMA: (thinking to himself) [I don't know who to trust more.. 
Ryouga with a transporter or shields of Mousse with weapons!] (to 
Mousse) Make it so with all possible speed!
MOUSSE:  Acknowledged!
RANMA:  Captain, I believe my Science Officer had a slight problem.  
Her wand, it seems backfired during a simple teleportation spell and 
instead of placing her on my ship's Engineering Level she was placed 
on your ship's, right?
RYOUGA: (thinking to himself) [Almost got it..there!] (flashes OK-sign 
to Ranma, who sees it)
RUMULON CAPTAIN: (surprised) That's right.
MOUSSE:  I have systems fixed, but just Minmei for now.
RUMULON CAPTAIN: (angry) Minmei?  That settles it, Captain 
Saotome, you were trying to fight us!  Prepare to say goodbye to 
your Science Officer!
(Akemi swallows hard as knives near her throat)
RANMA:  NOW, RYOUGA!
(Ryouga activates transporter from the console. A shaft of light encir-
cles Akemi..and she appears in a transporter room of the Rumicprise) 
RYOUGA:  Full shields raised!  Initiating Minmei Attack!
RANMA:  RED ALERT!  BATTLE STATIONS!
(The next thing we hear are screams of agony from the crew of the 
Akira as the sounds of Reba West reverberate, making sure the 
RUmulons feel the force of the Minmei Attack.)
RUMULON CREW: (in agony) STOP!  We can't take any more!
RUMULON CAPTAIN:  That was dirty, Captain Saotome..no doubt a 
cowardly attack!
RANMA:  I do what must be done to protect my crew, as you might. 
(to Ryouga) What's our offensive status like?
RYOUGA:  All weapons are powered down, including Minmei Attack.. 
(sees Akemi stomping in and seething with rage)..but the Akemi 
attack is powered up and ready to go.
AKEMI: (really ticked) Put a knife to MY throat will they..(wicked 
glint in her eyes) and I know JUST the thing for them..
RANMA: (crooked smile) Then make it so, Commander Doi!
AKEMI: (mystically tranced) By the ego of Sigmund and teddies of 
Dakin let warmth cover foes and love be in the makin'! (pauses) Now 
let's see what the spell hath wrought..(smiles)
RANMA:  Shampoo..hail the Akira.
(The Rumulon Captain is irritated.)
RUMULON CAPTAIN:  Captain Saotome, what is the meaning of this?
RANMA:  Earlier, you held a knife to my Science Officer's throat..well, 
she was just a "little peeved" that you did that.  I came to warn you 
your ship might be incapacitated.
RUMULON CAPTAIN:  Incapacitated?  By what can you use to 
incapacitate the mighty crew of the Akira?  (to communications 
officer) Let me listen to what's going on down there.
(The awws and giggles of Rumulons around the ship are heard)
RUMULON CAPTAIN:  Just WHAT is going on down there?!?
RUMULON CREW MEMBER: (unaffected just yet) Sir, all of a sudden, 
the crew was hit by a wave of..Terran..Teddy Bears!!  It's unlocking 
the warm feelings of the crew..causing them to mentally become kids 
again! (Is taken up by the wave..he seems blissed and happy) Ahh...
RUMULON CAPTAIN:  Captain Saotome, THAT was the lowest blow 
you could do..using child psychology to revert my crew back to an 
adolescent state!
RANMA:  I DID try to warn you about that..just be glad that she 
didn't use purple dinosaurs.
RUMULON CAPTAIN:  I'll keep a close eye on you personally..one day 
I'll get you for the havoc you rained onto my crew!
RANMA:  Understood..Rumicprise Out.
(Communications are closed as the screen blackens.)
RANMA:  Ucchan, pick a heading and go Warp 9 immediately..let's 
put some distance between us and them for now. (Ukyou plots 
course) Lieutenant Hibiki, Commander Doi..in my office. (touches 
communicator) Commander Mousse..my office as soon as possible.

(Rumicprise cruises by a planet, far from the maddening Rumulon 
ship.)
RANMA VO:  Captain's Log, Third Entry.  The situation has been dealt 
with..the "battlefield test" of the Minmei Disruptor was successful, 
and Akemi showed courage.  We had our first battle experience as a 
crew..and gotten insight as to our abilities.
(Ranma's office.  Ryouga, Akemi and Mousse are there.)
RANMA:  First off, Mousse, thanks for getting the Minmei Disruptors 
fixed.  It may not be a big thing for you, but I have a few suggestions 
for improvement.  First off..no more teddy bears.  When in battle, an 
enemy might not wait long enough for us to fix our weapons.
MOUSSE: (notes this mentally) Got it.
RANMA:  Secondly, I want you to have a communicator on your 
uniform at all times, set to vibrate as well as chirp.  If I need you to 
promptly respond, I must be sure you don't go talking to a blank 
wall instead of your communicator.
MOUSSE: Got that also.
RANMA:  Ryouga, you did great work in getting the transporters on 
line.
RYOUGA: (bows) Hai, Captain.
RANMA:  One day, you'll make a great Commander.
RYOUGA: (bows and smiles) Domo arrigato, Captain.
RANMA:  Akemi, your "Teddy Bear Burial" was good.  However, I'll 
need you to work on your teleporting from floor to floor.  In case of a 
serious emergency, I can't have you popping off to other places.
AKEMI:  Hai, Captain.
RANMA:  Also, you might want to brush up on your magic and 
possibly get your wand checked as well.  In a serious emergency, I 
can't have the bridge filled with smoke..members of the ship could 
panic if the computer yells "fire" every time you perform a spell.
AKEMI:  Hai, Captain.
RANMA:  That's all for now..(he stands) crew dismissed.
(The doors part; Ranma, Ryouga and Akemi head for the bridge, 
while Mousse heads for the Engineering deck.  Akane returns the 
center seat to Ranma)
RANMA:  They say there's a big universe out there.. (To Ukyou) 
Lieutenant Kuonji, pick a heading and go Warp 1..so let's see just how 
big it is. (Ukyou finishes plotting the course)  ENGAGE!
(Rumicprise travels on.)

Author's Note:

	Finished at last.
	This took me a long time to dig out of mothballs and polish up, 
but I hope you like it.
	The story originally took form in 1994, when Jeff Yang was still 
writing his "Ranma University" stories on his mailing list.  In them, 
Ranma, Akane and the rest of the Rumic group had matured slightly, 
now facing college and other prospects.  To pass the time while 
waiting for the stories to appear (which seemed to take forever), I 
had a hypothetical situation, where the Ranma University gang was 
warped into the ST:TNG continuum..and was forced to deal with a 
future they knew little about at first.
	This story is the first of the series, but Part 2 was the one 
originally tossed around by myself and Howard Chan as a case of 
"pass-the-story": One writes, another continues.  Eventually, I 
finished it.  Dusting off the copy I made of it, I polished it a bit and 
wrote Part 1 to set the pace.
	This is the finished product and I hope you like it.
